The show, starting on Sab TV Sep 1, is a situational comedy about the aspirations of a daughter-in-law who wants to occupy the power throne of the house by becoming a mother-in-law.
"The saas-bahu sagas currently on air on leading channels show joint families in every possible wrong way. Through our new show, we are trying to show the positive side of a joint family, the close bonding that family members share. We are doing it in a light and entertaining way, " Anooj Kapoor, Business Head, Sab TV said here Tuesday.
"It will be a relief for viewers who are stressed with regular soaps and even news channels."
He said that it will appeal to both men and women.
"This show is a mix of both women-oriented subject and comedy. Hence, both men and women can be active watchers of the show, " Kapoor explained.
While Bharti Achrekar, known for her role in "Wagle Ki Duniya" will play the mother-in-law, Vandana Pathak of "Hum Paanch" fame will be seen as daughter-in-law.
The concept of the "Main Kab Saas Banoongi" has a stark resemblance with popular comedy show "Tu Tu Main Main", which was also a comical take on the relationship between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
But Kapoor explained otherwise.
"I agree there is some resemblance to 'Tu Tu Main Main', but in that the daughter-in-law used to argue with her mother-in-law. In our show, the daughter-in-law doesn't do so."
Kapoor also pointed out that while "Tu Tu Main Main" was an episodic comedy show, "Main Kab Saas Banoongi" is a daily show and has a continuous storyline.
"Main Kab Saas Banoongi" is yet another attempt by Sab TV, that runs under the aegis of Sony Entertaniment Television, to focus its content on light-hearted comedy shows rather than adopting the tried and tested scripts.
The channel recently launched shows like "Lo Ho Gayi Pooja Iss Ghar Ki" and "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah".
